What are the main components of Carriage Bolt?

Nov 03,2023

The main components of a carriage bolt include:
Head: Carriage bolts feature a rounded or domed head, often wider than the bolt's shank. This head is designed for a finished appearance and to prevent turning when the nut is being tightened. Some carriage bolt heads have a square section beneath, fitting into corresponding square holes or slots to prevent rotation during installation.
Shank: The shank refers to the smooth, cylindrical section of the bolt between the head and the threaded end. Carriage bolts generally lack threading along the shank, except for a square section immediately beneath the head.
Square Neck: Beneath the head, there is a square section on the shank. This square neck is designed to fit into a square hole or slot in wood or metal to prevent the bolt from turning while the nut is being tightened, ensuring a secure connection.
Threaded End: The end opposite the head is threaded, allowing for the attachment of a nut. This threaded end enables the Carriage bolts to be securely fastened, holding materials together.
These components collectively make carriage bolts distinctive and suitable for specific applications where preventing rotation and ensuring a secure, flush fastening are crucial.
